This module support the 3.5“ 2.88MB floppy drive that was used with the NeXT slab computers. There are other MP-F40W drives from Sony, but only this exact model will work! The primary reason for the lack of compatibility is that the ribbon cable is actually flipped over within the computer. The module performs this flipping of signal positions so that you can use an ordinary 34-pin ribbon data cable with this drive. Also of note is that the same data cable also provides power to the drive. Therefore you really don't want to be experimenting with connecting other drives with this module.

Two pictures to help hook up your cable correctly. First picture shows the problem, the pin numbering is flipped on the connector verses what you would expect with the location of the connector key slot. When you plug in your cable, your pin 1 (red wire on ribbon cable) should be on the right side and a keyed connector will fit just fine. The module is performing the signal flipping so that you son't need a custom cable.

• There are 3 FLOPPYDS (aka drive select) lines, and when the xpand-o-rama is told to enable the drive, it will signal on all 3 lines. This is to make sure that no matter what the drive select jump on the drive is set to, it will activate it.

There is no power cable needed for this drive. Power is provided via the data cable.
